Each horizontal pulley
is part of a flotation cell. Chemicals were added to a tank
containing
water and finely ground rock materials. Rotating the pulley
agitated the solution creating
bubbles that floated off the ore minerals. The waste portion of
the rock settled and was pumped
out of the mill as tailings.
