In the early 1890's, A father and two sons by the name of Mendenhall came down to the river in search of gold. They
made claim on the first gooseneck below Mexican Hat. While one brother went off to gather
machinery for the mining operation, the father and the other son built the cabin. Unfortunately,
the machinery washed away soon after it arrived. The Mendenhalls abandoned the cabin and their claim.
